This "egret" was photographed by Willie Sekula and video-ed by John and Barbara Ribble at Lake Casa Blanca, Laredo, Texas on February 24, 1999. The Ribbles saw this bird three years ago at the same site, so it may be resident there. It seems clear that one parent was a Snowy Egret, but what about the other gene donor? Despite Little Blue Heron being the obvious first choice, the long bill, twin white neck-plumes, blue shaggy neck - with central white stripe - ending cleanly at the breast, and long straight back-plumes all point strongly to Tricolored Heron - any comments?
